JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Field Engineer/Field Tech Outreach will support commercial and industrial (C&I) energy efficiency and demand management programs in New Jersey. Candidate will engage with stakeholders across industries including local governments, commercial and industrial customers, contractors, and customers regarding the implementation of energy efficiency strategies and the programs available to assist them. The role involves a mix of office-based technical work and on-site project fieldwork on a diverse range of commercial and industrial (C&I) projects with varied energy systems. It includes frequent interaction with clients and extensive local travel within southern New Jersey. Success in this position requires a broad technical skill set in building energy systems, excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication, and ability to travel.
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct and/or attend on-site and/or remote meetings with potential customers seeking to upgrade building energy equipment.
- Provide ASHRAE Level 1/walkthrough audits for a variety of Commercial & Industrial facilities and recommend potential equipment upgrades. Help match them to best available incentive program offerings.
- Provide clear and accurate responses to technical and program-related questions to help convert high-potential leads into participating projects.
- Produce simple reports that summarize meetings, site findings, and recommendations to help guide customers to next steps.
- Provide technical assistance to customers, or their contractors, in meeting program requirements.
- Manage and track activities the program’s database.
- Attend client meetings, as needed, and report on customer engagement progress, findings, and opportunities for program operational improvements.
- Identify outreach opportunities by understanding customer requirements and analyzing how the program can effectively reach its target audience.
- Collaborate and work cross-functionally with a large and diverse team of project engineers located throughout the East Region and nationally.
- Stay informed about energy issues and industry trends.
- Will travel within Client’s territory and must have reliable transportation.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Responsible for maintenance and fees of the transportation vehicle.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ideal candidate should be based out of southern New Jersey or greater Philadelphia area and have an understanding of the local utility service area.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, energy systems, and building science.
- Experience with engineering sales or similar – candidate must be able to understand the technical nature of these projects while being able to communicate effectively with customers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Strong organizational and time management skills. Demonstrated ability to independently manage tasks and deadlines
- Comfortable using online database platforms to log and report activities.
- Hands-on field experience with mechanical and energy systems is a strong plus.
- Knowledge of energy codes and standards including ASHRAE and IECC is a plus.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Relevant work experience may substitute for undergraduate education.
- 5 years of experience required (10 years preferred) with building systems, facility management, energy auditing, or similar.
DESIRED ACCREDITATION
- Licenses, certifications and accreditations are a plus (e.g., Professional Engineer, Engineer in Training, Certified Energy Manager. Certified Energy Auditor, etc.).

WORK LOCATION
Up to 60% local/regional travel for site visits and customer meetings. This position is based out of our client’s office in New Brunswick, NJ.
